This five-film fantasy series called Pirates of the Caribbean is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The first two movies in this trilogy were helmed by Gore Verbinski. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the first film in this series, was released in 2003 to mostly favorable reviews with a total box office take of US$654 million, making it a commercial and critical triumph. The plot, acting, action scenes, and visuals all received high marks from the critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the first movie has a 79% approval rating and an overall score of 7.1 out of 10.

The fourth installment in the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, came out in 2007. On the website Rotten Tomatoes, this movie garnered a 33% approval rating, an average score of 5/10, and $1.045 billion in worldwide box office receipts. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth and last film in this series, was published in 2017.

The overall rating for this movie was mixed, and it made $794 million worldwide. The critics berated the overstuffed story. Rotten Tomatoes, has a 29% approval rating and an overall score of 4.67 out of 10. The 14th-highest-grossing franchise overall is this one. Each subsequent movie in this series has faced a decline in critical acclaim.
